At SW Wildlife Monitoring, my mission is simple: to bring people closer to wildlife in a meaningful and responsible way, while actively supporting the conservation of birds of prey across the UK.
Through carefully placed nest boxes fitted with remote camera systems, I monitor species such as Barn Owls, Tawny Owls, Little Owls and Kestrels with minimal disturbance. Working closely with farmers and landowners is a key part of this work, helping to demonstrate the positive impact of farming with nature in mind, while also providing vital nesting sites that are increasingly hard for these birds to find.
Where possible, I build nest boxes using recycled and reclaimed timber. Giving old wood a second life not only reduces waste, but also returns natural materials back into the landscape in a practical, conservation-focused way.
The camera systems provide an invaluable window into behaviour that is rarely seen — from courtship and nesting through to chick development and fledging. Each season brings new discoveries, and no two years are ever the same.
More importantly, this work helps create connection. By sharing these hidden moments, the aim is to raise awareness of the challenges these species face, inspire curiosity, and help people develop a deeper appreciation for wildlife that is often living right alongside us.
At its core, SW Wildlife Monitoring is about conservation through understanding — using modern technology to reveal nature in a way that informs, inspires, and helps protect it for the future.
If you would like to support this work, please do get in touch. Building nest boxes and installing remote camera systems involves ongoing costs, and any support, collaboration or interest is greatly appreciated.
