Luna hunting on her own
Now that all of our owlets have fledged and left the nest, I spent some time last night trying to find out if they were still in the area. I'm very pleased to have spotted this wonderful owl we named Luna. She was the youngest of the three owlets successfully raised by Willow and Asher in 2024. I hope to watch and photograph them over the coming months if they remain nearby.
I think you can’t help but agree that she is a wonderful looking bird.

Exciting news! The first sighting of one of our tawny owl owlets from the Dawn and Dusk nest site was seen last night. After months of anticipation and observing Dawn & Dusk in their environment, one of their adorable owlets emerged. There are two owlets which promise to bring more enchanting moments as they begins their journey in to the world.
Species of the Week - The Hobby
The Hobby is a small bird of prey found in Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. It has a sleek body, long wings, and a narrow tail, making it very agile in flight. Its feathers are mostly gray on top and white underneath with black streaks.
Hobbies are great hunters, catching small birds and insects while flying. They're known for their fast and skilled flying, often seen chasing prey with impressive moves. They nest in trees during the breeding season, using twigs and grass.
Despite their size, Hobbies are brave hunters, even taking on bigger prey. They usually live alone except during breeding season. They travel long distances between breeding and wintering areas.
Though not globally endangered, Hobbies face threats like losing their homes and sometimes being harmed by people. Conservation efforts help protect their habitats and raise awareness about their importance.
